Legal Research & Advocacy: Driving Systemic Change

Our Legal Research & Advocacy Program is dedicated to fostering systemic change in Myanmar’s legal and political landscape. We conduct evidence-based research and engage in strategic advocacy to inform policy, influence reforms, and champion human rights.

Objectives & Activities

Program Objectives

To conduct in-depth legal and socio-legal research on critical justice issues.
To develop evidence-based recommendations for legal and policy reforms.
To raise awareness among national and international stakeholders about legal challenges faced by marginalized communities.
To influence decision-makers for a more just and equitable legal framework.

Key Program Activities

Conducting participatory research, case studies, and surveys.
Developing concise legal briefs and policy papers summarizing findings and recommendations.
Facilitating dialogues, workshops, and roundtables with policymakers, justice officials, and civil society.
Engaging in strategic public awareness campaigns on advocacy issues.
Collaborating with national and international partners to amplify advocacy efforts.

Thematic Focus

Our research and advocacy cover areas such as SGBV, witness protection, the role of paralegals, civil documentation, and broader issues of human rights and the rule of law.

Program Impact

Since 2013, this program has played a vital role in informing discussions, shaping policies, and advocating for reforms that address pervasive legal challenges and promote justice for all in Myanmar.

Maybe it won’t get that far, but those who care about these international law disputes think China and the U.S. are on a collision course because both sides hew closely to contradictory readings of international law.
